I was quite surprised with how poorly this book was written, and how easily distracted Ryan could get while writing it. The fundamental issue with this book is there simply isn't enough actual content to fill the ~300 pages. The book doesn't offer significantly more insight than you can get from other, much shorter sources, and it leaves you with about 100 pages of good content and 200 pages of fluff. He spends a few chapters pontificating over the word "conspiracy", repeats the same Machiavelli and Gatsby quotes over and over again (despite not really being that relevant), and fills the rest of the book with him repeating what he just said or talking about his personal political opinions. The politics were particularly annoying, because this book has nothing to do with politics and it was rather unexpected. He uses this book to progressively talk more and more about politics, until by the last chapter he's just talking about how mad he is that Peter would support Trump and how he thinks it's a mistake, trying to put words in Thiel's mouth. Like I'm no Trump fan, but who cares? I want to read about Gawker and Thiel, not about how you think Trump is a liar who's willing to do anything to win. And it gets even dumber when he straight up lies about Trump, falsely claiming he called all Mexicans rapists. What else in this book isn't true, when he's willing to outright lie like that?However I digress. This book reads like a highschooler trying to reach a word count while sounding as pretentious as possible and I wouldn't recommend you purchase it.
