You're not surprised. Also, full disclosure, there is not a whole lot I can say about this book because if you have read any of Amy Bellows's books, it'll be a massive spoiler. The flip side of that, however, is if you have NOT read any of Amy Bellow's book, get on that. The second half of this book is wild and it's significant will mean absolutely nothing to you.On to the review.What can I say? I am but a lowly peasant in a queen's court and might I just say, this Queen has outdone herself. The book is written beautifully, the smut is great, and the characters are completely fleshed out. As much as I love MMM, there is always a slight fear that someone isn't going to be given enough time and become a side character or that things are going to get muddy if the perspectives change too often. No such thing happens here. The descriptions are clear, all questions are answered, and even if she hadn't changed the perspective on a chapter basis, I would still know who was talking because their voices are that distinct. Ben is the sweetest thing on two webbed feet. Axel is a cuddly teddy bear (see what I did there). And Cy....can I have one? He's dominant and broody and hot so seriously can I have one? I'm getting off track here but if you read the book you'll understand. The three of them are perfect together, and I truly mean that. The mark of a good MMM is when you can't see the characters without each other. It's either a thruple or not at all and that's definitely what happens here. Axl is the perfect soft daddy to Cy's stern one, and then Ben is the sweet little cinnamon roll that keeps them from killing each other because they are polar bear shifters. That is a thing that could entirely happen. They complete each other and balance each other out. They also have complete agency outside of their relationship which is super important if you want your characters to be more than just words on a page. All tea, no shade. One more time, in case I wasn't clear enough, yes this is a stand-alone but I highly suggest you check out her other books at first. There is some serious world-building going on here and it will mean nothing to you. The other two books had a little somethin' goin' on but I feel as though they focused more on the differences between penguin shifters and polar bear shifters. This book explains the world around them and how it works and why. It's woven in beautifully so at no point is there's any info-dumping. It's thoughtfully done and it feels like she's been planning this for a while now so hats off to you Amy. Speaking of things that are thoughtfully done, let's talk about the smut. You're reading my review, y'all saw this coming. It's great. I know I say that all the time but there's not too much I can say about smut without my review getting flagged so you'll just have to deal. I will say this though, she's a little kinky. Little bit of daddy, some non-con gets thrown in there, but don't worry everything is SSC and RACK. Plus, Ben is like super into it so it's fine. Amy definitely knows how to write smut so you won't be disappointed. The three of them are magic together but there's a reason why I want my own Cy.Moving on, for those of you who are not new to the series, get ready to be a little sad. The first two books were definitely on the cute and fluffy side and while there are some very sweet and adorable moments in this installment, the tone is pretty somber at points. I'm not going to say bleak because there is a light at the end of the tunnel so to speak but she's a sad one sis. Still super cute and low key I want a tortoise that eats expensive leafy greens, but also sad.Anyways, this was my version of perfect and I really enjoyed it. I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that THIS is my favorite installment of the series (which is SERIOUSLY saying something). I really enjoyed the world-building, I adored revisiting previous characters, and ohmigod babies. If you love omegaverse and mpreg and you like when an author switches it up a little bit, pick this up. You won't regret it. Five stars here but 10 stars in my heart.
